I have had many awesome opportunities to meet and sing in front of celebrities, including Bill Gates, Clifton Powell, Dennis Rodman, Esperanza Spalding, and ACDC, but the moment of meeting Grammy Award-Winner and original member for the rock band Chicago, Peter Cetera, was very special.
I was performing at my usual Friday morning gig at Victoria Gardens Heritage Farmers Market in Rancho Cucamonga, CA., when suddenly I felt a presence standing behind me as I was finishing up my rendition of Fly Me To The Moon. Peter Cetera, approached me from behind wearing regular attire, says hello, smiles, and then shakes my hand to say, "You're Good."
Those two simple words, were such a huge compliment coming from a person with such stature and experience.
He then asks for a business card and tells me that he was playing at the Lewis Family Playhouse that night and says, "Would you like to open for me?"
In my head, I was telling myself, Take every opportunity....and I replied "Yes."
Later that afternoon, Cetera's manager called me to tell me that although Peter really wanted me to open, there were city laws and paperwork that were too late to file. To make-up for getting my hopes up, they offered me 4 tickets to his SOLD OUT concert that night and I am so happy to have been able to share this moment with the HUGEST PETER CETERA FANS I know (Woody Garcia, and his Race Car Driving Dad, Ruben Garcia).
After the concert, Cetera's manager allowed me and my guests to exclusively meet Peter and his band backstage. They were all so very nice and amazingly talented! After a long day of rehearsing and performing, they all took the time to stop, smile, say hello, take a picture, and talk.
